◦ On February 3, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gimcheon-si announced that Donghee signed an investment memorandum of erstanding (MOU), which would bring in KRW 33.4 billion of inward investment and create 20 new jobs in the province. During the signing, 20 people were present, including Vice Governor for Economy Planning Jeon Woo-heon of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Mayor Kim Choong-seob of Gimcheon-si, Chairman Kim Se-woon of the Gimcheon City Council, CEO Park Joo-eun of Donghee, and provincial assemblymen Nah Ki-bo and Park Pan-soo of Gyeongsangbuk-do Council.

◦ With the signed MOU, Donghee, a company specializing in automotive parts,  will expand the electric-vehicle (EV) battery case plant inside the Gimcheon General Industrial Complex 1 to 2,000 ㎡ by 2021.

◦ In 2014, Donghee established its plant within Gimcheon General Industrial Complex 1 (stage 1). The company, ing on the development of eco-friendly EV parts and materials, shows its potential in the local auto parts industry, with KRW 360 billion in sales and 600 employees at the end of 2019.

◦ The investment aims to expand the Korean production line for EV batteries, which will be exported to Europe, for the increased demand for eco-friendly EVs to reduce carbon dioxide in Europe and other countries. This follows the selection of Donghee as a U-turn company returning its manufacturing  to Korea.

◦ According to Donghee’s supplier, which has the technology to make unique aluminum battery cases, “If Donghee starts full-fledged production with this expansion, it will improve fuel efficiency for cars with aluminum cases that are lighter than steel used in internal combustion engines and ensure safe driving by reducing heat, which will ultimately boost future sales.”
◦ Mayor Kim Choong-seob of Gimcheon-si said, “As we expect the rapid growth of electric cars because of expanding environmental regulations, we hope that Donghee actively responds to, and secures leadership in, the rapidly changing global eco-friendly market.” The mayor adds, “We will provide administrative support to help Donghee, which signed the investment MOU, grow into an excellent firm in the region.”

◦ Vice Governor for Economy Planning Jeon Woo-heon of Gyeongsangbuk-do said, “We thank Donghee for making the investment decision in the province to prepare for the spread of eco-friendly cars, and I hope that it will grow into a global company with leading investment in technology development at a time when the economy is in a bad shape.” He added, “We will take the lead in making Gyeongbuk Province an ideal place for business by actively resolving difficulties that may be encountered by enterprises investing in the future.”
