Gyeongsangbuk-do announced that it signed a Memorandum of erstanding (MOU) on “Ramada Mungyeongsaejae Hotel” involving an investment of KRW 82.2 billion together with Mungyeong City and Ramada Development on April 23, 2019 (Tuesday) at Mungyeong City Hall.
Ramada Development, which runs Ramada Mungyeongsaejae Hotel, announced a plan on investing a total of KRW 82.2 billion by additionally constructing two 3-story buildings with 2 ergro floors that hold 169 rooms and additional facilities including banquet halls on an 11,505 m2–sized site nearby the existing hotel building within Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park from 2019 to 2021.
With the investment, Ramada Mungyeongsaejae Hotel will become the largest hotel in Mungyeong that has 240 rooms, a grand ballroom with a capacity of 500 guests, 4 seminar rooms including a mid-sized banquet hall that can host up to 300 people, hot spring sauna, swimming pool, and VR experience center.
Mungyeong City stated that the investment would lead to the creation of 75 permanent working positions for the youth and the prime-age people while significantly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy as materials necessary for the construction of hotel rooms and restaurants and additional facilities would be supplied by local businesses.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-Woo said:
“Mungyeong is a tourist city visited by 5 million people annually because of its beautiful natural landscapes, various tourism resources for leisure/experiential activities, including drama and filming locations, and great accessibility from the metropolitan area. However, it has been going through many difficulties because of the lack of accommodation during the peak season and facilities that can meet specific needs such as sports business in Korea and abroad associated with the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps. In particular, when the Icheon-Mungyeong Jungbu Naeryuk High-Speed Railway s in 2021, Mungyeong will become more accessible from the metropolitan area, which will lead to an increase of tourists. Above all, accommodation facilities should be well established to make Mungyeong a tourist site where many people can stay overnight and fully enjoy themselves.”
Ramada Mungyeongsaejae Hotel is the first global brand hotel established in Mungyeong. Through the expansion of investment, the hotel is expected to address the shortage of rooms during the peak season and meet the various demands of tourists visiting Mungyeong, including foreign tourists wishing to receive global standard services, as well as the demand on sports business.
Going forward, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Mungyeong City will make the best of their efforts on offering administrative support for companies to actively attract tourism and leisure service industries, including facilities for accommodation and experiential activities, and, in turn, create jobs and revitalize the local economy.
