Gyeongsangbuk-do and Sangju-si have set out to build a fine dust reduction equipment plant in Sangju’s Cheongni Industrial Complex, which will propel their plan to turn the industrial complex into an environmental technology hub.
On the 19th (Wednesday) at 2:00 p.m., at the head office of Nano Co., Ltd. inside the Cheongni Industrial Complex, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Sangju-si signed a memorandum of erstanding (MOU) for a fine dust reduction equipment plant with Nano Co., Ltd. and Tuna Corporation. The ceremony was attended by Gyeongsangbuk-do Vice Governor for Economic Planning Woo Hyun Jun, Sangju Mayor Cheon Mo Hwang, Nano Co., Ltd. CEO Dong Woo Shin, Tuna Corporation Chairman Jin Meng, and more than 30 members of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council.
er the MOU, Tuna Corporation and Nano Co., Ltd. will coinvest KRW 15 billion (USD 9.6 million in foreign direct investment) for three years until 2021 in a plant that manufactures fine dust reduction equipment (denitrification, desulfurization, and dust collection equipment). The plant will create aro 30 jobs for local residents.
Tuna Corporation is a Chinese company located in the Paojiang Industrial Zone in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. The company was named one of the top 100 enterprises in Shaoxing in 2013 and was listed in the Shanghai Stock Exchange in February 2017. With a total asset of KRW 240.8 billion, a turnover of KRW 120 billion as of the end of 2018, and more than 910 employees, Tuna Corporation is a heavyweight in the environmental sector.
Nano Co., Ltd. is an environmental solution company foed in 1999, with its head office currently located inside the Cheongni Industrial Complex in Sangju. It produces a denitrification catalyst that removes nitrogen oxides, which is one of the main sources of fine dust.
As the only Korean company capable of manufacturing titanium dioxide, it has been leading Korea’s selective catalytic reduction (SCR) market. It reported a turnover of KRW 102.0 billion in 2018 and currently employs 400 workers.
※ Selective catalytic reduction means the conversion of nitrogen oxides from thermal powerplants, ships, and engines into harmless materials, such as nitrogen or hydrogen, with the aid of a catalyst.
The coinvestment will see the construction of a manufacturing plant for desulfurization equipment (for the reduction of sulfur oxides in exhaust), dust collection equipment (for the reduction of dust in exhaust), and denitrification equipment (for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust). Manufactured equipment will be supplied to small/medium industrial facilities and powerplants, with some of them to be exported overseas.
Vice Governor for Economic Planning Woo Hyun Jun said about the MOU, “The collaboration between Tuna Corporation and Nano Co., Ltd. will contribute to the production of more competitive environmental equipment. We will our efforts on fostering a business-friendly environment and building confidence that investing in Gyeongsangbuk-do is a guarantee for success.”
