Gyeonsangbuk-do is the home of many ethnic culture including the Buddhist culture
of the brilliant Silla Dynasty, the mysterious culture of Gaya and the Confucian
culture of the Joseon Dynasty. It is an excellent representative of Korean culture
because it contains 20% of Korea's cultural assets.
With the success of the "Gyeongju World Culture Expo" and the "World Confucian
Culture Festival" (a culture Expo for people around the world) Gyeongsangbuk-do is
leading the cultural stage in the 21st century.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is the home of loyalty and patriotism. It is also heir to the spirit of
the "Hwarang" and housed many aristocrats throughout its lengthy history. This spirit
of patriotism became a stronghold for overcoming national disasters with an
indomitable spirit emphasizing justice, tenacity and faith.
Gyeongsangbuk-do has deployed its full strength as the leader of modernization in
Korea by launching national spirit campaigns, such as Saemaul Undong (a self-
motivational philosophical movement) and a nature preservation movement.
Gyeongsangbuk-do has also cultivated Pohang and Gumi as international industrial
cities.

Gyeongsangbuk-do has a large number of human resources that include 250,000
college students in 38 universities, the largest concentration outside of metropolitan
areas.
There are 349 research institutes at the hub of research activities in the area that
include many corporate research institutes. The Techno Park and the Regional
Innovation Research Center are located here. Gyeongsangbuk-do has boundless
potential for growth in the age of information.
Gyeongsangbuk-do has put all its strength into cultivating new high-tech industries, sciences and technologies based on its natural resources, abundant traditional cultural relics, robust industrial infrastructure and outstanding human resources. Furthermore, Gyeongsangbuk-do is pursuing a new take-off as the hub of Northeast Asia, combining tradition, modernization, culture and industry.
