Gyeongsangbuk-do devoting all its efforts to foster tourism industry in 2020

Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to foster the existing projects such as Tour venture, Tour host, Tour Dure in order to enhance the effectiveness of the tourism service facilities and environment improvement and tourism promotion fs, which have been intensively promoted, and to lay the foation for the industry structure where local residents can lead the tourism by themselves for revitalizing local tourism as entering the 7th popular election.

This is in line with the three core values of the Province of Gyeongsangbuk-do for 2020: "Stabilization of the People´s Livelihood," “Coexistence", and "Practical Growth."

The details of the plan include: Firstly, Gyeongsangbuk-do will push forward with the job creation projects on the basis of the 90 companies which have been discovered and nurtured since 2019. The projects include Tour Dure Project (for fostering cultural tourism planning experts (Tour Dure PDs) to organize tourism companies d on local material and human resources, to develop tourism products, and to stand on their own feet), Tour Venture Project (for fostering businesses with creative items), and Tour Host Project (for finding new entrepreneurs for new businesses (experience tour).

Secondly, the tourist facilities will be renovated to create a travel-friendly environment by investing 10 billion won in 2020, followed by 16 billion won of investment in 2019 to support 600 tourist service facilities (tables, kitchens, toilets, etc.). On top of that, the Province plans to a tourism academy that will enhance the professionalism of people engaged in the tourism by strengthening the capabilities of cultural heritage commentators who can impress travelers visiting world heritage sites, and by conducting a campaign to help all residents to warmheartedly welcome tourists.

Thirdly, 88 billion won will be spent on 57 infrastructure-building projects that add value to local tourism resources such as culture, ecology, and green (Creation of Gumi Cheonsaeng Historic Park, Restoration of Mungyeong Haneuljae Old Road), and 128.6 billion won on six projects that are in the final stages of turning three cultural areas (Confucianism, Buddhism, Gaya) into tourism assets, including Andong International Confucian Scholar Culture Park and Yeongju-Andong Korea Culture Theme Park, etc.

Fourthly, A project with a total cost of 1 trillion won "Gangnaru Cultural Area Development Project” will be executed as scheduled for future tourism of Gyeongsangbuk-do after reviewing the effectiveness of the designation of a new tourist facilities complex that will boost local economy such as attraction of private capital.

Fifthly, as five out of 13 World Heritage sites of Korea are located in Gyeongsangbuk-do, the province will promote to expand its unique killer contents by developing and operating various tourism products in connection with UNESCO World Heritage and activating local cultural experiences such as the Baekdu-daegan Humanities Camp and representative festival alliance programs.

Sixthly, for strategic tourism marketing, online marketing will be used through SNS (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) which is the No. 1 tour ination collection route for tourists in their 20s and 30s who enjoy trips, along with viral marketing through bloggers, international student reporters and travel writers, star marketing through TV programs, and global marketing through local media.

Lastly, the province is scheduled to provide special products consist of major tourist destinations in Daegu-si and Gyeongsangbuk-do for visitors to mark the "2020 Daegu-Gyeongbuk Visit Year," and to carry forward cooperative projects by themes such as "Daegu-Gyeongsangbuk-do 6 Doings: Six Doing – Buying, Visiting, Eating, Connecting, Smiling and Enjoying.”

Daegu-si and Gyeongsangbuk-do will jointly push ahead with 24 tasks for win-win cooperation for culture and tourism by cohosting Daegu-Gyeongbuk Tourism Grand Sale for foreigners, providing integrated tourist ination using local cafes and convenience stores, improving restaurant’s convenience services for tourists, making and distributing tourist maps of Daegu-Gyeongbuk (subways, buses, railroads), designating special weeks for hospitality, and continuously inspecting tourist attractions in order to upgrade the tourism infrastructure of the region to bring more tourists and vitalize the local tourism.

Gyeongsangbuk-do was rated first-class in Local Tourism Development Index by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which is conducted to assess the level of tourism development of local governments. And its strategy is to add value to the intrinsic cultural heritages as sustainable tourism assets d on its tour geographic benefits to make Gyeongsangbuk-do livable.

The Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Lee Cheol-woo said, "Our goal is to normally implement the projects that have been pursued to satisfy the needs of modern tourists who seek healing and wellbeing with trendy and tailored tourism contents and erse experiences by combining historic and ecological resources of Gyeongsangbuk-do and industrial culture of Daegu. This can lead to revival of tourism in 2020 and accelerate the win-win tourism of the two local governments, and ultimately make Daegu-Gyeongbuk a globally popular tourist destination.
