In response to the implementation of the regional visa system aimed at attracting overseas talent, Gyeongsangbuk-do (Gyeongbuk) opened the Gyeongbuk Global Talent Development Center (the Center) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on the 22nd.

The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 100 people, including the Director of the Gyeongbuk Local Era Policy Bureau, the Director of the Gyeongbuk TechnoPark, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the President of Tashkent State Technical University, the President of Tashkent State University of Economics, the Vice President of the INNO TechnoPark, local university students, and officials from relevant organizations.

The Center, which will be operated by Gyeongbuk TechnoPark, expands the talent pool through networking with organizations related to Uzbekistan and provides comprehensive support related to talent development, such as regional visa recommendation consultation and immigration policy guidance. It also helps job seekers in Gyeongbuk to register on Worknet, offers support for job placement, such as interviews and applications for the issuance of a letter of recommendation from the governor, and promotes projects for 25 types of Gyeongbuk regional visas.

After the opening ceremony, Gyeongbuk and Turin Polytechnic University signed an MOU in order to establish a cooperation system related to talent development and attraction through the Center so as to promote the province’s regional visa pilot project.

Based on the MOU, Gyeongbuk agreed to designate Turin Polytechnic University as a regional visa pilot project university and to support the settlement program for participating talent. Turin Polytechnic University agreed to recommend participating talent for the regional visa pilot project and provide them with Korean language education in advance.

Turin Polytechnic University was established in 2009 through the cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the Uzbek Automobile Industry Association, and it is expected to help in attracting mechanical engineering experts to the province’s automotive parts production sector.

In addition, Gyeongbuk discussed the introduction of regional visa talent with Tashkent State Technical University and the Tashkent State University of Economics to attract talent in various fields, as well as the designation of universities to participate in the regional visa pilot project in the future. The province also visited the Samarkand Vocational Training Center and reviewed ways to attract career talent.

Gyeongbuk plans to first hold a briefing session for local universities and respond to the region’s population decline and demand for personnel in the local industry with customized attraction strategies. This approach includes expanding the centers by base from this point forward.

The Director of the Gyeongbuk Local Era Policy Bureau said, The opening of the Global Talent Development Center is the starting point of the Gyeongbuk regional visa pilot project and will serve as a venue for promoting cooperation. We will actively work towards attracting global talent by facilitating exchanges between organizations through the Global Talent Development Center.
