Gyeongsangbuk-do announced its plans to vaccinate more than 716,200 citizens, including senior citizens (65 or older), childcare workers for children with special needs or disabilities, school nurses, healthcare workers, and other essential personnel, against COVID-19 by the end of the second quarter this year.

Vaccinations will start with the elderly aged 65 and over, then childcare workers for children with special needs or disabilities, school nurses, healthcare workers, and other essential personnel.

More than 26,800 residents aged 65 and over at nursing hospitals/facilities whose vaccinations were suspended in the first quarter will be vaccinated by the 4th week of March. Nursing hospitals will vaccinate their own patients, while nursing facilities will have their patients administered with their vaccinations by a dedicated inoculation team from an affiliated medical institution or public health center.

Starting in April, the Pfizer vaccine will be administered at Vaccination Centers* to more than 277,900 residents, including senior citizens aged 75 or older and residents/workers at facilities serving the elderly. *Vaccination Centers: 14 centers expected to open by April, 24 centers expected to open by May

In particular, to facilitate vaccinations at the Provincial Vaccination Centers, Gyeongsangbuk-do will designate public officials to each eup/myeon/dong district, and establish a support system to supervise the entire vaccination process from preliminary registration to transportation, vaccination, release, and post-vaccination monitoring.

In April, more than 19,900 people, including special education workers, school nurses, childcare/daycare workers, workers at facilities for the disabled, workers at correctional facilities, workers at elderly care communities, residents at tuberculosis and leprosy communities, workers at facilities for the homeless, will be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine at the designated medical facility or public health center (inoculation team). In May, the AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered at designated medical facilities to more than 308,700 senior citizens between the ages of 65 and 74.

Then, from June, home care workers for the disabled and the elderly, kindergarten and daycare center employees, elementary school teachers (1st and 2nd grade), chronically ill patients under 64 years of age (chronic kidney disease, chronic severe respiratory disease), medical institution and pharmacy workers, and essential social security personnel (police, coast guard, fire departments, armed forces) will be inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine at designated medical institutions (more than 82,900 persons).

Kang Sung-jo, head of the COVID-19 vaccination program (Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs at Gyeongsangbuk-do), said, “As we begin vaccinating senior citizens aged 65 and over in the second quarter, we will make every provision that is necessary to ensure the safety of the vaccination process and respond effectively against any potential side effects. We would like to ask for everyone’s cooperation in getting vaccinated so that we can create a bubble of herd immunity, which will allow us to get back to our normal lives as quickly as possible.”
