◦ Gyeongsangbuk-do and Mungyeong-si announced that they have signed a memorandum of erstanding (MOU) with the mask manufacturer PnTD at the city hall on Monday, April 27.

◦ About 20 people attended the signing ceremony, including Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Chul-woo Lee, Mungyeong Mayor Yoon-hwan Goh, Provincial Assemblymen Young-seo Park and Woo-hyun Goh, City Council Chairman In-ho Kim, PnTD CEO Jong-han Park, city council members, and other government officials.

◦ PnTD also announced its KRW 11 billion investment in a 3,000 m² area in Mungyeong Gaeun Agricultural Industrial Complex for over two years, starting 2020 until 2021. The investment will help produce new production lines for melt-blown (MB) filters, fine dust masks, and dust masks and create 20 new jobs.

◦ PnTD manufactures world-class quality quasi-masks at competitive prices with its advanced and efficient production facilities and systems. Korea’s No. 1 mask supplier  also accounts for  of the domestic market through its affiliate, Welkeeps.

◦ The company explained that the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, which has increased the demand for masks, led the company to expand and address the widespread need for masks both locally and abroad.

◦ As such, PnTD would continue to provide masks in the country and continue to export to Europe, the United States, and Canada even after the crisis subsides. This expansion will increase the current daily production capacity from 1–1.3 million to 2 million pieces.

◦ In addition, a new MB filter production line will be established to secure price competitiveness through cost reduction and stable mask supply, as procurement of these essential filters for mask production has been difficult given the limited supply.

◦ With the investment, PnTD will have control over the entire production process from mask filters (raw materials) to finished products and grow to become a global company.

◦ For two consecutive years, PnTD has won the grand prize in the “Consumer-Picked Yellow Dust Mask” category in Korea JoongAng Daily’s mask brand uation. Along with Welkeeps, the company continues to maintain its position as the No. 1 maker of fine dust mask because of its popularity among customers.

◦ “The public’s interest in health rose with COVID-19. In response, Mungyeong City will actively attract the medical industry and become a recreational and medical tourism city by utilizing Mungyeong’s cultural tourism and clean resources,” Mungyeong Mayor Yoon-hwan Goh said in a greeting on the signing day.

◦Gyeongbuk Governor Chul-woo Lee added, “We will support companies located in our province that produce MB filters needed for mask and dustproof suit production to ensure their growth as global companies through exports. We will drastically remove all regulations that will hinder the investment to revive people’s livelihoods and  all our capabilities in attracting companies.”
