On February 13 (Wednesday), Gyeongsangbuk-do hosted the “2019 Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Promotion Briefing Session for Companies in the Metropolitan Area” at Seoul Dragon City with about 500 CEOs of companies in the metropolitan area including Main Biz Association CEO Kim Jung-tae in attendance.
At the briefing session, Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-Woo delivered his words of appreciation, saying that the entrepreneurs’ capacity for innovation is the driver of national development, and introduced the future vision of Gyeongsangbuk-do in his greetings for the participants. Afterward,
Hwang Jung-ha, Head of the Investment Promotion Office, explained the investment conditions of Gyeongsangbuk-do, including industrial infrastructures, environment, and locational conditions, and introduced the success stories of companies that had moved from metropolitan areas and invested in Gyeongsangbuk-do, along with the incentives for investment.
Governor Lee Cheol-Woo said, “Gyeongsangbuk-do will create quality jobs by attracting investment with the ives of securing KRW 20 trillion in investments and generating 100,000 jobs, which are the top-priority tasks of the seventh provincial government of Gyeongsangbuk-do elected by popular vote.” He added that “Although the current situation is tough in Korea and abroad, now is the time to aim higher against new changes,” stressing that “the true worth of innovative entrepreneurs is proven during times of risk.” He also acknowledged the efforts made by entrepreneurs, saying that he “sees hope in the entrepreneurs who study hard during early morning hours.”
Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to pursue its investment promotion activities by continuously offering on-site consulting and maintaining networks with target companies identified through this briefing session.
One entrepreneur of a company in the metropolitan area who attended the briefing session stated that he started to consider relocating the company after seeing the examples of Anylux and Wintex, that had moved their businesses from the metropolitan area to Gyeongsangbuk-do, at the briefing session. He said that “While the increase rate of costs has become higher in the metropolitan area because of the large amount of capital input on distribution costs resulting from transportation issues, the burden on distribution costs is low in Gyeongsangbuk-do thanks to the region’s great transportation infrastructures, and land prices are also significantly low compared to the highly expensive land costs in the metropolitan area.” He also stated that although he had been concerned over workforce supply and demand he was able to feel that Gyeongsangbuk-do is a great place for doing business after seeing that the production workforce is young and feeling the administrative department’s sincereness to help businesses in the region when he heard about the examples of relocated companies and receiving consulting at the briefing session.
Hwang Jung-ha, Head of the Investment Promotion Office, explained that Gyeongsangbuk-do would offer incentives to companies that relocate their businesses from the metropolitan area, provide subsidies on promoting investment in local provinces, and set up robust infrastructures suitable for businesses by enhancing access to Gyeongsangbuk-do with the ing of two railway lines (Seoul-Andong and Seoul-Mungyeong). He also said that Gyeongsangbuk-do would provide administrative support and investment incentives so that companies could have a conviction for success in investing in the region d on its differentiated level of infrastructures and investment conditions.
Meanwhile, since Governor Lee Cheol-Woo’s seventh provincial government elected by popular vote took office, Gyeongsangbuk-do has been proving that it is sparing no effort on attracting investments from companies and supporting them by successfully attracting KRW 2.8574 trillion of investments and being chosen as the best pering institution in the comprehensive uation of provincial investment promotion projects of the government in 2018.
