Gyeongsangbuk-do secured a large-scale investment of KRW 150 billion for creating a tourist complex that includes a Korean traditional- hotel, mountain bike course, and golf course on a 909,785 m2–sized site of Angang-eup, Gyeongju City.
At 5:30 p.m. on February 22 (Friday), Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongju City signed a Memorandum of erstanding (MOU) on the “ing of North Gyeongju Tourist Complex” at the main conference room of Gyeongju’s Hwarang Village Exhibition Hall with Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-Woo, Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young, Sun Rich Golf Club President Lee Sang-geol, and members of the provincial assembly in attendance.
Sun Rich Golf Club is a company that has significantly contributed to the increasing popularity of golf by running a golf course in Angang, Gyeongju from 1999. It plans to develop the “North Gyeongju Tourist Complex” that includes a town of traditional Korean houses, auto campgro, mountain biking course, arboretum, trail, and golftel.
When the ing of the “North Gyeongju Tourist Complex” is completed, more vitality will be blown into the northern areas of Gyeongju that has relatively erdeveloped tourism infrastructures. Moreover, infrastructures for experiential activities and sports will be added onto the great historic and cultural resources of the area, making it a tourist site with multilateral aspects.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-Woo stated that “Gyeongju, the capital of Silla Dynasty with 1,000 years of history, boasts outstanding tourism resources that reflect the harmony between nature and humans, culture and industry, and tradition and modernity with its wide variety of cultural heritage and festivals showing the uniqueness of the region. It is also one of the largest tourist sites visited by 20 million people a year and has great accessibility through the KTX, Gyeongbu Expressway, and Donghaean Expressway.”
He also said that “the establishment of the tourist complex is expected to lead to the creation of new jobs, including 170 permanent workers and 5,400 day laborers in annual terms, new population inflow, preferential hiring of local talent, and increase of tax revenues, thereby greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.”
Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to actively promote the tourism services industry, a promising pollution-free industry highly capable of creating new jobs, to generate quality jobs and reinvigorate the local economy.
