Perfect time for cycling! Cycling your way to Gyeongsangbuk-do’s World Heritage sites!
- Gyeongsangbuk-do hosting a World Heritage Tour program to support its UNESCO bid for Gaya Tumuli -
- Enjoy the autumn season and ride along all tour courses until October 29 to win a medal -

Gyeongsangbuk-do announced its newest program, the Gyeongsangbuk-do World Heritage Bicycle Tour, featuring seven beautiful cycling roads to celebrate the autumn season. The program takes advantage of the cooler air for cyclists, and ends on October 29.

The program also supports Gyeongsangbuk-do’s bid to register its Gaya Tumuli, which includes the Jisan-dong Tumuli in Goryeong, as a UNESCO World Heritage this September. Home to the largest number of World Heritage sites in Korea, the Provincial Government is looking to take advantage of its attractions and bring in more tourists before the end of the year.

The cycling program is a marketing campaign to promote Gyeongsangbuk-do’s World Heritage to potential inbound travelers and give them a chance to travel, cycle, and take care of their health at the same time.

The program involves seven routes that amount to 475km in total distance. The program takes cyclists to 11 different World Heritage sites scattered across four cities and counties in Gyeongsangbuk-do, including Gyeongju, Andong, Yeongju, and Goryeong (pending).

Gyeongsangbuk-do will also select 50 people who manage to complete the challenge (random draw) for a chance to go on a luxury cycling trip to Ulleungdo Island this November.

For those who are unable to finish all seven routes, the Province is offering mobile coffee coupons worth either KRW 10,000 (three routes, 300 persons, first-come-first-serve) and KRW 20,000 (five rouges, 150 persons, first-come-first-serve) as well.

For inquiries regarding the program, please contact the Domestic Tourism Team at the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization (call ☎ 054-740-7263).

The Director of Culture, Tourism, and Sports at Gyeongsangbuk-do said, Korea has more than 13 million cyclists, and that number has been skyrocketing since COVID-19. We want to encourage more people to come on a cycling trip across Gyeongsangbuk-do with new travel and tourism products targeting cycling enthusiasts, and at the same time, promote our proud World Heritage sites across the Province.

Meanwhile, Gyeongsangbuk-do continues to seek new ways to become a popular destination for cyclists. In 2021, it announced a list of the top 25 cycling roads across the Province for inbound travelers.

Going forward, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to develop additional tourism content that combines hobby activities with tourism, which is why the Province wants to expand the top 25 list to a top 50 list, giving cyclists more options to choose from.
