Enjoy the peak autumn foliage season at Gyeongsangbuk-do’s autumn festivals!

With the autumn foliage season expected to reach its peak in Gyeongsangbuk-do this weekend and last all the way until early November, the Yeongju Market Grand Agriculture Festa and Cheongsong Apple Festival will get underway, featuring apples from both Yeongju and Cheongsong as their Star products. Both cities are known to produce some of the best apples in the country thanks to the fertile orchards near Sobaeksan Mountain in Yeongju and Juwangsan Mountain in Cheongsong.

Both cities are the two top producers in Gyeongsangbuk-do, the largest producer of apples in Korea (60%), every year.

The 2023 Yeongju Market Grand Agriculture Festa opens on October 27 (Fri).
The 3-day Festa is about Selling honest products, buying earnest products from local farmers in Yeongju. With an opening ceremony at 18:00 on October 27, a Fresh Concert will feature K-pop artists such as Roy Kim, H1-Key, and Lee Mu-jin to get the festivities going. Visitors can head over to either the Munjeong Riverside area or Buseoksa Temple to buy fresh Yeongju apples.

The Festa will also feature various events, such as cooking classes with Yeongju agricultural specialties, other entertainment programs, and a game of roulette for free souvenirs. Not only that the 19 eup/myeon/dong districts across Yeongju are pooling their resources to open a Farmer’s Market for some of Yeongju’s best local produce.
A Passion Concert and special cultural performance featuring local cultural artists and regular citizens will give visitors more to enjoy throughout the entire Festa. Local products will remain on sale at Buseoksa Temple until November 4 (Sat).

Meanwhile, on November 1, the 17th Cheongsong Apple Festival, a culture and tourism festival officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, gets underway for five days. This year, the venue has been set up near Hyeonbiam, and the Festival’s theme is the Golden Symphony of Cheongsong Apples. Programs to engage locals and inbound travelers have been added to promote the County’s pristine environment and its potential as an eco-tourism destination.

16 carefully selected farms will sell apples directly at the Festival, allowing tourists to purchase apples at lower prices. Cheongsong plans on setting up a special customer center to eradicate price gouging this year.

In addition, Cheongsong is hoping to elevate its local competition, the Cheongsong Flower Rope Weaving contest, into a nationwide competition to not only provide better entertainment, but also to get the contest designated as a cultural heritage going forward. The County also says it upgraded the landscaping near the Festival venue to offer a better view in the evening, and create a more striking and memorable ambiance.

The Cheongsong Apple Festival begins with a Cheongsong Dophobusa Parade at 08:00 in the morning on November 1 (day 1 of the Festival), followed by a Cheonsinje ritual, an opening ceremony for the 26th Cheongsong Apple Festival, and a concert later in the day at 18:00.

Main programs include contests (Cheongsong Apple Essay Contest, King of Apples Contest), interactive programs (the Golden Apple Show, Golden Apple of Universal Gravitation!, Apple Lottery, Apple Nanta, Apple Bat), cooking exhibitions using Cheongsong apples, and showcases to sell applies to make sure visitors have a chance to taste, enjoy, and have fun with delicious Cheongsong applies.

Meanwhile, the 6th Uiseong Garlic Festival opens on November 3 in the downtown area of Uiseong-eup for three total days. Uiseong is hoping to highlight the vibrant image of the region using this year’s theme, Superfood City, Uiseong is Alive!

Visitors can have fun thanks to a full lineup of entertaining programs, including lively performances such as the Uiseong IN Trot Concert, Happy Show! Show! Show!, and Late Night Snack Party, as well as the Superfood Showdown, a youth festival, Uiseong Superfood Cooking Contest, a superfood market, and a special market for local produce throughout the Festival.

On November 17 (Fri), the unique Gumi Ramyeon Festival will open its doors to visitors in Gumi, the birthplace of Korean ramyeon. This years Festival, now in its second year, gets underway in downtown Gumi, including the road that runs right in front of Gumi Station and the lively streets of Munhwa-ro and Geumgeumdan-gil, to offer better access to tourists and give local businesses a chance to take advantage of the increased foot traffic.

Organized into four different zones (Enjoy, Relax, Eat, Immerse), this year’s event is expected to have even more to offer, including a new Welcome Gate, a photo zone featuring Gumis Ramyeon mascot, aRamyeon Road, and various interactive and promotional booths. Unique food zones such as a Retro and Urban Camping Zone, Ramyeon and Beverage Zone, Overseas Ramyeon and Beverage Zone, a Ramyeon Square, as well as a street dance battle, a talk show on ramyeon, and retro ramyeon party will set the stage for people to eat and have fun at the Festival.

In addition to these festivals, the Yecheon Market Grand Agriculture Festa (November 3~November 5) at Hancheon Sports Park, and the Pohang Guryongpo Gwamegi Festival (November 18~November 19) at the Guryongpo Ara Square are also set to entertain visitors to Gyeongsangbuk-do this November.
