Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook has said that Koreans are firmly determined to protect their territory and history against foreign threats.
Any country could not distort our history, but we would not idly look on any such move, Han told the ceremony marking the 4,338th anniversary of the nations foundation at the Sejong Center for the Pering Arts in downtown Seoul on Tuesday (Oct. 3).
We have kept our long history with firm determination not to bow to numerous challenges and ordeals at home and abroad. However, it is fearful that there has been a clear move to distort the nations history, Han said in her congratulatory speech.
Dokdo clearly belongs to our territory according the history. Goguryeo (BC 37 ~AD668) and other ancient nations our ancestors set up are full of splendor, Prime Minister Han emphasized, explicitly lashing out at Japans claim to the nations easternmost island and Chinese move to usurp the ancient history of Korea.
She stressed that the Korean people would protect their territory and rights to the history based on in-depth studies to be conducted in a neutral manner by a foundation on Northeast Asian history inaugurated on Sept. 28.
It is far and rough to succeed to the spirit of founding father Dangun and to develop it. However, Koreans are the people who have made the country as it is, breaking through hardship and ordeals tougher than now. Korea has never been stronger than now in its history, Han said, calling for jumping one step higher now on such a basis.
She also made it clear that her government would try hard to solve inter-Korean issues such as North Koreas nuclear issue and its test fire of missiles, peacefully through dialog and to settle permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
As many as 6.7 million ethnic Koreans living in every corner of the world are invaluable assets in the future of the nation. There would be no problems unsolved if all the 77 million Koreans on the peninsula and overseas try to do in unity and social consensus. Korea would be one of the leading nations and worlds top people in the near future, Han said.
